Option 1

For your final project, you should author a video using the song Wired but disconnected by Duckett. Thematically, your video should be about the lyrics of the song. You can modify the song (for example, add a beat, add your voice, apply effects, etc.) You can use any video you want (yours or someone else's) as long as you are doing so legally. The video can have a maximum size of 20 MB. Your compression selection should be that which allows you to have the maximum image and sound quality without exceeding 20 MB.

You have to start the video with a quick title and give proper credits at the end of it.

Wired but disconnected

Plugged-in, polarized
Fist raised in anger
Staring down, don’t meet the eyes
Everyone’s a stranger

Thousand tunes ringing in my ear
No time for conversation
Thousand channels wired to my brain
No thought, just sensation

Don’t look at me, can’t you see
I don’t wanna talk to you
I’m plugged in to the world
I’m wired but disconnected
Wired but disconnected

I’ve seen the world through my screen
I’ve travelled it with my fingers
There’s no need to touch or feel
‘Cause nothing here is real

You may be tall, I may be short
But that’s just reality
I am as I want to be
And that’s virtual-ity
Wired but disconnected

Sit next to me, I don’t care
Look but don’t you touch
Your presence here is just a fact
And to me it don’t mean much

Face-to-face is not my thing
It’s matter of perspective
I’m so hip I don’t need you here
With me to be connected
Wired but disconnected

Plugged-in, polarized
fist raised in anger
Staring down, don’t meet the eyes
Everyone’s a stranger

Thousand tunes ringing in my ear
No time for conversation
Thousand channels wired to my brain
No thought, just sensation

Don’t look at me, can’t you see
I don’t wanna talk to you
I’m plugged in to the world
I’m wired but disconnected
Wired but disconnected

Option 2

Part 1 (60% of the grade)

Throughout the semester we have covered how to create several types of digital media mostly in a technical way. The final project entails communicating an idea; that is, the most important objective is not to the demonstrate you can use the software, the most important objective is to communicate the best way possible. Most probably your message will compete with all sorts of messages already in our environment, so you should ask yourself “in what way my message is clear and relevant”? You should also ask yourself “in what way my message is meaningful to others”? This step is essential in our use of Digital Media since we seek becoming a skillful communicators and not skillful technicians.
Having given this very important introduction, you are requested to create one of two possible projects: an auditory composition or an audiovisual composition with the intent of promoting the learning of digital media (it would be even better if it is specifically about ComS106). The most important communication objective of your final project is to persuade others to study Digital Media.
Keeping this main theme, your creative freedom is unfettered.

Technical aspects of your Final Project
Include at the top of a Wiki page one paragraph explaining your assignment; for example, how you chose to achieve the communication objectives, why you chose the medium you chose, etc.

Auditory composition
Maximum Length: 3 minutes
Sound quality: 44 khz, 16 bits, Stereo, MP3 (higher than 96 kbps)

Audiovisual composition
Maximum Length: 3 minutes
Video quality: As high as you can. Please consider uploading to you tube if you need space. If you do, please embed the video in your final project Wiki Page.
Give proper credit to all the media used in your project, including your own. This is mandatory.

Part 2 (40% of the grade)

Please document how you achieved your project using a Jing screencapture. Remember that the size of your screen determines the size of your final video. So I require a recording no bigger than 1024 pixels by 768 pixels (resize your monitor screen before you start recording). Communication intent of your screencapture: Your screen recording is meant to help a student in future semesters to replicate your project. So the main intent of your recording is to inform and to instruct. Be sure you plan your screen recording so you cover these objectives the best way possible.

Screencapture Technical Aspects
Maximum Length: 4 minutes
Maximum size: 1028 pixels by 768 pixels, must include audio.
Should be embedded in the same Wiki page below your Final Project’s media.
